Inspiration Strikes: Micropoetry.

I become more and more in love with the idea of micropoetry, very short stories (#VSS), Haiku, etc, the more I read and write them. An attempt to capture a moment, a sight, a thought, a mood, a kind gesture, a gentle fragrant breeze, into a few sentences is a great way to stay connected to my creativity, when things haven't been otherwise cooperating writing-wise.

I like to stroll through them from time to time and am pleasantly surprised to see (hear?) that there is a nice melody in my entries. That, for the most part, I have a particular tone. Would one go so far as to say my 'Writer's Voice'? I was hoping you'd help me figure it out. I am saving them here to share them with you. I would love to hear what you think.

2014:

Reality pays a belated visit
And I can't sleep
My heart is lost with you
(June 19)

Words can catch your breath
Lift your spirit
And lighten your heart.
(June 19)

For the past hour
A night bird has been
Chirping up a storm.
I hope he's not lost
Or feeling alone.
(June 26)

All other sound
Drowned out by
the torrential rainfall
Of the night.
(June 26)

Saturday afternoon, around two.
I vow to spend some time with you.
Come on Muse, let's see what we can do
(Aug 9)

Unfocused, Numb, Detached lately
October isn't an easy month, you see
Grief returns so naturally.
(Oct 22)

2016:

Every blinding reminder
Of the cruelty happening around the world
Is another broken piece of my heart. (Jan 20)

The grey clouds have lifted. Another Heart Lightens. The stars are exceptional tonight. (Feb 8)

There's comfort amidst the noisy rain.
It drowns out my relentless anxiety.
Might I get some sleep tonight? (Jan28)

Crescent moon's shadowy smile
Hides under a weighted, darkened sky.
Rain muffles a Sirens call
Let me bid U goodnight. (Feb 12)

Sometimes rain droplets spatter the cold glass.
Other times the rain streaks the windows
Washing away their clarity. (April 13)

If you write
If you dream of writing
Even if you're experiencing a block
And sharing fewer words
You Are A Writer. (Jan 14)

A new day awakens
We brush off the grey melancholy.
Write. Edit. Delete. Learn. Repeat. (Jan 14)

I'd walk through fire for you
Even if you ask me not too.
It's just another part of me.
Take me, or leave me be. (Jan 22)

The noisy rain seems to amplify her grief.
Droplets streak her face.
Yet she insists she isn't crying.

But am I? (Feb 4)

Inundated with life
Too busy to catch my breath.
Or to remind myself to enjoy
The remaining moments each day has left. (Feb 25)

So long, the pen feels almost foreign in my hand.
So long, these characters feel a bit unfamiliar.
I'm Writing. I'm actually writing! (Mar14)

A heart-shaped leaf clings to her arm. Raindrops roll slowly down her cheek. Nature reveals her truth.(mar25)

Purple Rain
Prince takes a bow on stage
Tears stream my face.
The Final Curtain call.
Legendary. Out of this world
The man was an Ace.(apr21)

2015:

I need to learn
To keep my mouth closed.
But maybe they'll learn to stop asking.
(May 14)

Isn't it amazing

The level of still silence
During a power outage.
(June 28)

When all else fails
Go back to the beginning

Remember your love of words
Rekindle your love for your story.
(Dec 4)

The pain in my chest
Weighs me down like an anchor.
If only I could go back in time.
Or learn how to cut the line.
(Dec 13)

Something catches her eye
Nae matter the darkness nor light
Colours streak the nigh'
Have you ever heard such a sight?
Dec 5 2015

2017+

It's the perfect day
To wander slowly
Through the rain
Forget the umbrella
And let the world soak in.
(June 15-2017)

Do you remember how it began?
How you fell into writing
 & what it felt like?
on't let anything take that away.(june 21/17)

Late night racing thoughts
Silenced by amplified drumming
Oh Vancouver rain.
(April 13/18)

An icon. An Inspiration.
To not let physical (or other) limitations define you, or stop you. To not let disabilities prevent you from TRYING.
Persevere. Defy them.
A good reminder to us all.
RIP Stephen Hawking.(March 13, 2018)

Today is almost like any other day
Until something reminds me it isn't
Until helping a guy rearrange a work fridge
For the flowers he bought his mom
Until the next breath is shuddery
And I blink back the tears

Today is a day of remembrance.
May 14, 2018 ~ Mother's Day.

You may not have a lot
But you don't need a lot
To be grateful
For life.
May 15 2018

I looked at the blank spaces
And told myself if they ask
Only then I'd pull on brave faces.

They didn't ask
I remained one with the crowd
Sitting in a reluctant disappointment
With myself.

Maybe next time.
May 15, 2018.
